Welcome to my Machine

Though it's relevance has become lost in these digital days, for many years the mixtape was the medium for communicating love, lust, or feelings of friendship that existed in our heads, but for some reason couldn't be articulated through words. The mixtape was used to facilitate hookups as well as breakups. While I am personally guilty of using it to support both causes, my main objective when making someone a mixtape was to get them out of their musical comfort zone and introduce them to sounds they would never investigate on their own. Of course I often promoted my own agenda through the inclusion of songs and artists I found particularly moving in one way or another. But hey, I love to spread the wealth of what I personally consider good or interesting music and love to be the recipient of such acts of kindness as well.

Music is my motivator, my nostalgic companion, my educator, my ally.
Bryan Ferry sang (in Roxy Music), "Love is the drug". Sorry Bryan, music is the drug for me. I have been actively pursuing the world of contemporary music for the past 30 years. A lot has changed in that time and that is what keeps me interested. I will make my best effort to share the space with my current faves, my nostalgic (and often disturbing) loves, and the crap the rest of the country considers to be good. You hear me Daniel Powter? I am talking about you.

Welcome to the mixtape. A blog that will suck some in, push some away, and most definitely promote my own agenda. The agenda of spewing forth opinions and facts (you can determine which is which) about anything music-related.

  2. Powter sings "Bad Day". It is ubiquitous but be glad you don't know about it. You are a better man because of it.
