My Five Favorite Things This Past Week

A Chance Return

Chance dropped four new songs this past Thursday and they're all really different, but all really good. The aptly named I Might Need Security is my standout. Chicago's prodigal son is back with a bang, announcing his purchase of city culture catch-all blog, The Chicagoist and calling out the Windy City's Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, all with a sped-up, pitch-shifted Jamie Foxx hook that I dare you to unhear.  Chance is an advocate for Chicago and for its people and it's great to see him back with a fire in his belly.

DRAM Jams

DRAM, like Chance, is back with multiple new singles this week. And also, like Chance, he's back with really good songs. I'm diggin' the laid-back funk of Sundress, but Best Hugs is equally delicious in a completely different way.

WTF

I don't even know how to classify Meteorological by Guerilla Toss, but I can't stop listening to it.

I 💖 Snail Mail

Once in a great while a song connects in a powerful way. Doesn't have to be lyrically. Doesn't have to be musically. Doesn't have to be vocally. Well, it's probably going to be one of them, but it doesn't matter which one. Heat Wave dabbles in all three. I can't shake it out of my head or my heart and that's what makes it so beautiful. It was the lead single off Lush, which came out June 8 and is already a strong contender for my album of the year.

YACHT rock

They really do.
