The Mixtape 7/17/18: Snail Mail, Camp Cope, Vic Mensa

The Heat Wave continues at the top as Lindsey Jordan aka Snail Mail continues her dominance. The top 10 looks a bit different with all things Kanye finally falling out to make room for a few big movers, namely:

Movin' On Up

Bleeding / Thick (10-6)
Fuck Yo Club / 'Lgado, Valee (13-7)
Hot Pink / Let's Eat Grandma (14-8)

New Entries

Lonely For The Night / Beach Rats (9)
Feels Like Summer / Childish Gambino (35)
Esther / The Hold Steady (36)
La Di Da / The Internet (37)
Hair Cutter / Animal Collective (40)

In a Nutshell

Rock rules! Beach Rats come out of nowhere with what sounds more like authentic punk rock than anything that's been unnecesarily slapped with that moniker since Rancid's ...And Out Come The Wolves. I do like my punky pop and my poppy punk in the summer, which explains why Lonely For The Night is sharing the upper-most ten of the 'tape with equally refreshing rock stylings from Late Bloomer (4) and Thick (6).

As was the case last week, I don't have anything that stands out for new releases this Friday, but the random and unexpected singles will keep my taste for new music sated to a point. I mean, I didn't see new music from The Hold Steady (36) and Animal Collective (40) being released this past week, but I'm digging both tracks after just a few listens. I mean, two stalwart groups of mid-aughts indie kids dripping with street cred are still fire af. Yes. That's exactly what I meant.
